Song: Sleep Forever Artist: Crocodiles Album: Sleep Forever Label: Fat Possum Release Date: 2010
Yet another rock outfit that was conceived in the throes of high school desperation, Crocodiles are the current culmination of Charles Rowell’s and Brandon Welchez’s ever-changing pop personalities. En route to their present embrace of fuzz, feedback, and lo-fi, the San Diego boys have combined under multiple monikers in multiple styles, including a pseudo-popular hardcore band called The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower. Regardless of the uppity shape-shifting, they’ve hit a solid stride with this incarnation. Their most recent release, Sleep Forever, is a masterful suite of dense and noisy yet catchy and accessible rock production; many of the songs sound like homage to mid-90s Chemical Brothers deep cuts, or the last few minutes of any post-Dylan/post-marijuana Beatles record. The album should hit right for any fan of the times — a fantastic snapshot of untrendy trendiness at the turn of this decade.
